Gabriel Govela, born and raised in Mexico City, knew from an early age that he wanted to be a storyteller. While attending Universidad Iberoamericana, in 2001, Gabriel began working as an art department assistant for a small independent film; it was there that he instantly fell in love with the set. Since then, he has worked in advertising, rising from PA to editor and first assistant director for some of the best advertising directors in the world. He worked on global campaigns for Tecate, Volkswagen and Budweiser. In 2007 Gabriel co-founded “El Taller” a boutique animation and post-production studio. There he produced and supervised more than one hundred spots for Nestlé, Coca-Cola, Kellogg's and Nissan. As a way to maintain the balance between work and passion, Gabriel decided to use “El Taller” as a platform to create visual arts and short films. He produced the feature documentary “Bering: Equilibrio y Resistencia” and the animated shorts “Ventosa” and “The Spring” which he also co-directed.

Gabriel's style is driven by his love of directing actors, flawless storytelling, and strong visual effects.

These pieces were widely acclaimed and awarded on the festival circuit; it is also on display at the Musee Quay Branly in Paris, the Brooklyn Children's Museum, and the National Gallery in Washington DC, among many others. Becoming a live action director in 2011 brought Gabriel together with corporations and agencies such as BBDO, McCann Worldgroup, GRAY GROUP, MullenLowe, KIA Motors, ExxonMobile, Kansas City Southern, SEAT, Mitsubishi, Pepsico, Bimbo and Heineken. His work has been recognized at numerous festivals. He has also directed short films, series and TV episodes for TV Azteca. Many of his online movies have gone viral, racking up record hits. Gabriel's style is driven by his love of directing actors, flawless storytelling, and strong visual effects. He recently filmed for The Coca-Cola Company and the 2022 New KIA Stinger launch campaign and documentary web series KIATravel, as well, with Titan & Gary Numan in their short film/music video for “Dark Rain”, Cinépolis and APEC. Gabriel is about to start pre-production on his first feature film, “Zarzal”, which he also wrote.
